The Best of ICAMedia is a showcase of the exquisite talent of Visual Arts and Music ICAM (Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts major) seniors who have been working in the interdisciplinary world of technology and art. Utilizing their imagination and the skills honed from multiple methods of expression across the arts, music and film/video, these students share pieces from static art to multi touch games in this exhibit. This is the next generation of artists - the electronic impact of artistic expression upon our day to day world. The projects exhibit the very best of combined technology, art and culture.

Students Paint a Green Picture at Film Festival

UC San Diego students showcased their commitment to the environment and talent for visual arts during the second Earth Week “VidFest” film festival on Wednesday night at the Price Center Theatre. The competition featured 11 original videos by undergraduate students. The short pieces differed in style, but all were created specifically for the competition to increase awareness about the environment.
The filmmakers competed for over $3,000 in cash prizes and winners also received a copy of Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax” autographed by Audrey Geisel. In addition, Leonardo DiCaprio donated copies of the documentary “11th Hour” to the winners and sent a statement commending the student filmmakers for their dedication to the arts and the environment.
Jason Campa and Joshua Krohn shared top honors at the film festival and won $1,000 each for their efforts. Krohn’s “Footprint” was built as a narrative in reverse that showed how the ‘footprint’ of littering causes damage to the environment. Krohn also won the Muir College “Choose to Change” award; his film was screened at the Honorary Muir Luncheon on Thursday.

Alison Reyes is a senior Media Arts major with an emphasis in photography. She has spent a majority of her time at UCSD exploring all aspects of the medium, yet expresses a specific interest in portrait photography.
'Choices' is a photographic collection created by Alison to reflect the issues regarding America's young voters. The series is compiled of various photographs exhibiting a studio aesthetic of media-made american youth.

In a department overshadowed by traditional academics, the arts are unseen and transparent. On a broader range, we as people are no more of an individual as our names claims to be. We are in essence just among the masses of identities. Therefore we become transparent in the normalcy of daily routine, transparent in our calculated gestures and interactions. 'Transparency' is a show about recreating individuality through an exploration of self interconnected and plugged into the system as a whole.
For the past two years, the graduating class of the Visual Arts Department has provided a unique opportunity for young artists to exhibit their work in a celebration that invites the UCSD community, local gallery and museum curators, and the general public.

There is an obvious abuse of workers in Maquiladora Industrial Plants by foreign-owned companies, which built these industrial plants in Tijuana, Mexico, because of the cheap labor force. These companies mostly hire female workers who are easier to suppress in this patriarchal society. However, the problems that the workers encounter not only call into question women's rights or labor rights, but the larger umbrella of human rights. In maquiladoras, there is a violation of human rights as it is stated in article 23, article 24, article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. On this broader level, geography and nationality are not the focus, and thus, I, as a human being, am able to get in touch with the situation.
